Australian Digiital Alliance (ADA) & Australian Libraries and Archives Copyright Coalition (ALACC)
Copyright Officer

The ADA is Australia's peak body representing copyright users and innovators in a digital world. I continue to work with the organisation to support their copyright reform advocacy.
The ALACC is the primary policy body for copyright issues affecting the library, archive and information sectors in Australia. I continue to work with the organisation to support their copyright training and reform advocacy.
The Copyright Officer was a part-time role working two days per week across the ADA and ALCC. The position’s specific duties and milestones I achieved included:
- Preparing copy for the monthly ADA members newsletter.
- Presenting libraries and archives copyright training on behalf of the ALACC.
- Undertaking self-directed legal research to support the Executive Officer to draft submissions to government inquiries on behalf of both organisations.
- Assisting with the drafting and release of content (e.g. website content, training presentations, information resources, media releases and social media content.
- Project managing the development and launch of a new website for both organisations.
- Reviewing and redrafting the libraries and archives copyright training materials on behalf of the ALACC.

Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) exists to support the creative and professional development of writers and to showcase and celebrate the diversity of Queensland writers and stories locally, nationally and internationally.
This role was initially four days per week and increased to full-time in March 2015. I was responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies in support of QWC’s Strategic Plan. This included:
- Leading the Marketing & Communications team.
- Researching, drafting and implementing an annual Marketing Plan, including managing the annual budget, monitoring progress and evaluating effectiveness.
- Brand management, including custodianship of the QWC Brand Guidelines, as well as the guidelines for the Australian Writer's Marketplace and If:book Australia brands, and the WQ and Books from Our Backyard marks.
- Managing production and release of digital content, including website content across multiple websites, electronic direct mail (monthly newsletters and as needed one-off EDMs) sends and social media content across multiple channels and accounts.
- Managing production, printing and distribution of promotional materials and collateral, including the quarterly print publication WQ and the biannual printed program, as well as flyers, posters, bookmarks, ad artwork and merchandise. This included developing briefs for design and printing.
- Drafting and distribution of media releases, pitching to journalists, managing relationships with the media, coordinating QWC talent for interview and, where needed, briefing talent and providing talking points.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures as needed to support the marketing communications function.
- Managing relationships with partners, government agencies, publishers, booksellers, other arts organisation, advertisers, graphic designers, printers and couriers.
Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is Australia’s national public broadcaster. ABC Radio National (RN) is the ABC’s largest single radio network, broadcasting award-winning programs on science, books and publishing, religion, social history, the arts, the environment and current affairs. ABC Jazz is a genre-focused digital radio station from the ABC.
I was engaged on a fixed-term contract to fill in for the Marketing Manager of ABC Radio National and ABC Jazz. Responsibilities included:
- Leading the Marketing team.
- Brand management, including custodianship of the ABC Radio National and ABC Jazz Brand Guidelines and approvals of internal and external logo use.
- Managing production, printing and distribution of promotional materials and collateral, including flyers, ad artwork and merchandise (including the immensely popular ABC Radio National umbrellas). This included developing briefs for design and printing.
- Managing relationships with internal ABC divisions, partners, graphic designers, printers and couriers.
- Caretaking the annual Marketing Plan and budget.
- Reviewing policies and procedures to support the marketing function, including making recommendations for improvement.
- Auditing the ABC Radio National Brand Guidelines, providing recommendations for improvement and developing a transition plan to roll-out a branding amendment.
- Designing and distributing a consumer survey of newsletter subscribers to determine optimal content mix and newsletter length, analysing response data, reporting findings and making recommendations for optimising the weekly newsletter.
- Designing and implementing a branding template for deployment across ABC Radio National’s social media channels and overseeing its roll-out.
Before being engaged to backfill the Marketing Manager role, I was engaged on a fixed-term contract to backfill the Marketing Coordinator role. Responsibilities included:

Creative Australia (formerly the Australia Council for the Arts) is the Australian government’s arts funding and advisory body.
The Digital Content Officer was a new position. The role was created to develop a digital strategy for Council. Responsibilities included:
- Managing production and release of digital content, including website content across multiple websites, electronic direct mail (monthly newsletters and as needed one-off EDMs) sends and social media content across multiple channels and accounts.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures to support digital communications, including a new social media policy, an engagement strategy and a content strategy.
- Developing and implementing procedures to support digital content, including designing workflows, implementing ongoing periodic content review, prefered information architecture, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) improvements, wireframing and front-end design.
- Developing and delivering training to staff on the use of digital and social media channels, including providing as needed one-on-one support to staff.
- Shared responsibility for brand management, including custodianship of agency's brand and associated marks (e.g. Artery, Art Facts, ArtStart and others).
- Project managed the development of a number of specific focus websites (e.g. Artery, Australia's representation at the Venice Biennale, Australia's representation at the Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture and others).
- Managing relationships with internal agency divisions, graphic designers, web developers, web designers, printers, and couriers.
- Public speaking engagements about the use of digital and social media in the arts and culture.
